Australia's The Wiggles Rock music lovers may gasp, "Say it ain't so!," but Australian children's group The Wiggles once played 12 sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City, breaking [The Boss] Bruce Springsteen's seemingly safe record.

Springsteen fans wouldn't be the only incredulous ones. According to CNN, an April survey said the group grossed $39 million in 2005, more than fellow Aussies AC/DC and actress Nicole Kidman (only the highest paid actress in the world per film in 2006!) combined. The Wiggles are Australia's biggest entertainment-world earners and one of the highest-grossing acts in the world.

From TheWiggles.com:

"Right from the start, The Wiggles were proven to be on the right track by the most discerning audience of them all - the children themselves. Their list of awards for albums, singles and videos coupled with their extraordinary sales figures would be the envy of any contemporary artist, while the devotion of their enormous, young fan-base sees tickets to their live shows snapped up within minutes. Huge crowds of children and their parents turn up at any live appearance, often in matching skivvies!

"The Wiggles self-titled first album/DVD was released in 1991 and 15 years and 27 VIDEO/DVD releases later, they have been awarded with 17 Gold, 12 Platinum, 3 Double Platinum and 10 Multi Platinum Awards for sales of over 17 million DVDs and 4 Million CDS worldwide. They have also been awarded with Highest Selling Children’s Video Sales in 1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999 at the ADSDA Awards."

SIDEBAR: Greg Page, the magician in the group and "Yellow Wiggle" announced in late November 2006 that he would be reluctantly leaving The Wiggles to battle a rare illness called orthostatic intolerance, a disorder which stops his heart from pumping enough blood while standing or dancing. Page had been with the group since its debut in 1990. Greg has been replaced by Sam Moran, his Wiggly understudy who has been singing with the band on record and in special appearances since 1998.
