SCROOGE REVIEW, A GATHERING OF ANGELS TO BENEFIT
THE SALVATION ARMY NASHVILLE COMMAND
Nashville, TN – Music Row songwriters revive a 20 year-old tradition to provide assistance to The Salvation Army Nashville Area Command this holiday season.
20 years ago, the “Law Firm” songwriters, Peter McCann, Ralph Murphy, Pat McManus, and Richard Leigh & theatrical agent, Betty Clark decided to hold a Christmas benefit for The Salvation Army. This year, due to the overwhelming need of the community, the Scrooge Review is revived.
“Peter McCann passed the torch to me a few years ago,” says Scrooge organizer, Amanda Williams. “I hadn’t done one in a few years, but Mike Servais (Marketing & Resource Development Director of the Nashville Area Command) emailed asking me to revive the Review this year and help them out. They have over 16,000 Angels on the Tree and not enough funds to provide for them. The Salvation Army is the last hope for a lot of folks because they serve people that aren’t covered by any other holiday assistance programs.”
The Scrooge Review will take place at Two Old Hippies (401 12th Ave. South, Nashville, TN 37203) in the Gulch on Tuesday, December 13th from 6 to 8 PM. The Salvation Army will be on hand to receive donations.
This event will feature Scrooge founders, Pat McManus (American Made), Peter McCann (The Right Time of the Night) & Ralph Murphy (Half the Way) along with songwriting legend, Pat Alger (Unanswered Prayers) as guests on a special live taping of Voices from the Mountain, the original songwriter variety show produced by Williams’ company, Hillbilly Culture. “We’re kind of like NPR’s Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me for songwriters,” laughs Williams about the show.
Past performers at the Scrooge Review include: Harlan Howard, Mike Reid, Kathy Mattea, and Gary Burr. In recent years, the Scrooge Review has featured the talents of Doug Johnson (Three Wooden Crosses), Tony Haselden (Love, Me), The Grascals (IBMA Entertainers of the Year) and many other talented performing songwriters.
