Number One Songs—Time In A Bottle

Jim Croce Have you seen the TV commercial where the actress says, "You know that song 'Time In A Bottle'...?" as a way of introducing us to the "fast-acting" allergy relief medication, Zyrtec?

What's a little odd is that many young men and women her age (she probably isn't yet 30 years old), WOULDN'T know the song. It was a #1 hit for the late, great Jim Croce way back in 1973.

Although, when young people DO hear the song, often they choose it as a wedding song. It is that special and beautiful a song.

In 1972, Philly-native Croce exploded onto the airwaves and record charts with "You Don't Mess Around With Jim." The success of his inagaural ABC album by the same name, which also included "Time In A Bottle," garnered millions of fans for Jim and his wife Ingrid, who sang with him.

Tragically, Croce and his lead-guitartist never lived to enjoy the lasting success of this and the many hits that followed their small plane crash in September, 1973.

Croce was 30, his guitartist Maury Muehleisen was just 24. The two died, along with the plane's pilot, while flying from Louisiana to Texas. "Pilot error" was ruled as the cause of the crash.

Croce's wife and musical partner, Ingrid, subsequently opened a popular restaurant in downtown San Diego (Croce's), in honor of her late husband.

The couple's son, A.J. is also a notable singer, songwriter and performer.

Time In A Bottle Lyrics
(Words and Music by Jim Croce)

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that Id like to do
Is to save every day
Till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with
