For decades advertising agencies have used popular songs to sell products and build brand awareness. Sometimes the ad is the impetus for the song to become a hit, as was the case in the 70s with Coca-Cola and "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing."
An 80s classic, "I Melt With You," performed by Modern English, was revived in 2007 by Taco Bell to introduce customers to its new Cheesy Beefy Melt.
"I Melt With You" was never a Top Ten or even a Top 40 hit — [when it was released as a single and on the 1982 After the Snow LP] - it peaked at number 76 in July 1990 — but it's one of the most recognized songs of the new wave era. Originally released in the U.K. in 1982, the song was a minor hit in the U.S. in the spring and summer of 1983 — thanks, in part, to being the love theme of the cult hit Valley Girl. (It was used in the mid-movie montage as well as over the end credits.) The song's strummy up-tempo beat, vocalist Robbie Grey's English drawl, and the ultimately positive, us-against-the world chorus made the tune a hit in dance clubs and on pop radio. In 1989, Modern English slightly revamped the song and re-released it, but it again failed to crack the Top 40. Several years later, the track was used in a Burger King TV ad in an attempt to attract the Gen-X market. Despite the fact that it never broke through to mainstream success, "I Melt With You" endures as a watermark for 1980s optimism and sentimentality, and as a classic pop song that never quite got the accolades it deserved. —Allmusic.com
I Melt With You Lyrics (Words and Music by Richard Ian Brown, Michael Francis Conroy, Robert James Grey, Gary Francis McDowell and Stephen James Walker)
Moving forward using all my breath
Making love to you was never second best
I saw the world thrashing all around your face
Never really knowing it was always mesh and lace
I'll stop the world and melt with you
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time
There's nothing you and I won't do
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(You should know better?)
Dream of better lives the kind which never hate
(You should see why)
dropped in the state of imaginary grace
(You should know better?)
I made a pilgrimage to save this humans race
(You should see why)
What I'm comprehending a race that long gone bye
(I'll stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(I'll stop the world)
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time
(Let's stop the world)
There's nothing you and I won't do
(Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
The future's open wide
(Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(Let's stop the world)
I've seen some changes but it's getting better all the time
(Let's stop the world)
There's nothing you and I won't do
(Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(Let's stop the world)
You've seen the difference and it's getting better all the time
(Let's stop the world)
There's nothing you and I won't do
(Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(Let's stop the world)
I'll stop the world and melt with you
(Let's stop the world)

The lyrics are I'll stop the world and MELT with you. It can be clearly heard, and it would make no sense whatsoever for Hershey to use a song saying "I'...
