Hatch Show Print — Nashville, TN
"Advertising without posters is like fishing without worms." The Hatch Brothers
There is perhaps no more iconic image depicting the tradition of country music, and indeed, southern tradition, than a show bill, poster or advertisement printed by Nashville's legendary Hatch Show Print.
Hatch Show Print was founded in 1879 by Charles R. and Herbert H. Hatch, sons of William H. Hatch, who ran a print shop in the town of Prescott, Wisconsin before migrating to Nashville in 1875.
The still operational Hatch was donated to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992. Hatch Show Print is located in downtown Nashville, at 316 Broadway, walking distance from famous honky-tonks such as Tootsies. You can visit the shop in person where you'll get a real thrill looking at the hundreds of famous original show posters gracing the walls, or browsing (and buying!) classic re-prints."From their very first print job - a handbill announcing the appearance of Rev. Henry Ward Beecher (brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe), the Hatch Brothers got the look right. Here was the simplicity, the effortless balance between type size and style, vertical and horizontal layout. Here too was the distinct whiff of American history, Southern culture and entertainment..." —The Country Music Hall of Fame "Hatch Show Print use a Vandercook press, in which the paper is attached to a cylinder that is rolled across the surface of the printing plate." —Uppercase Gallery Many visitors are surprised to learn that Hatch is still going strong and YOU can have your own product or event immortalized by Hatch Show Print for a very reasonable price!
