from Steve Owen re:Twilight Zone theme Season 2

by Steve Owen
(Los Angeles, Ca,)

Twilight Zone Theme by Marius Constant got "into the hands" of Rod Serling via The CBS Music Library in Hollywood...I think it was Lud Gluskin, a bigwig from the music dept. who went to Europe to find compositions for the CBS TV music library...so he went to France and had Marius write some generic Music (perhaps the music was already written?) to take back to America for use in CBS productions.

When the Twilight Zone series was created they used a piece written by Bernard Herrmann, a dreamy celestial piece...by the second season it was decided that Constant's bizarre little piece (actually 2 pieces of music strung together) would be used. Who made the decision I don't know, but I suspect the Music dept heads, (with Rods approval, of course). I do know it was not specifically written for the Twilight Zone.

Some fans really like the Herrmann music better, but I think that Constant's theme has become universal with all things bizarre, as you have stated in your article.
